So I haven't updated this in a few days. The weekend was very busy. The jazz band performed at the SHSU Jazz Contest. The new concert hall on campus is a wonderful facility to play in. The most frustrating part of the event dealt with the amplification system they were using. Sound Techs from the Theatre Department were running the sound system during the contest. Based on several issues it appeared they didn't have much experience in running a live music performance. Solo mics were very late coming on and way out of balance compared to the ensemble. During the setup process there was not a tech working on microphone placement. We did all of it ourselves hoping everything would be in the correct location. The band played well despite the issues created by the microphones. We had several outstanding soloist awards given to very deserving students.
On Sunday I played my first church gig in years at First Baptist The Woodlands. I doubled on clarinet and alto saxophone. There was a one hour rehearsal before the first service and a second service 15 minutes after the first. I was surprised my face made it through the entire morning without getting too tired.
Later in the day we tried to get Landen to pose in the bluebonnets for some pictures. I think we are not quite to the actual sit and pose age yet. He wanted to go play on the playground instead of taking pictures. He loved doing the big slide.
Yesterday, Lindsey had her last ultrasound before Brinley is born. The tech was nice enough to hook us up with some 3D images of her. She was actually smiling for us in one of the shots.
Last night we took some band students to play for the girls and boys soccer playoff games. It was a late night but we had a blast. The boys took the game down to the wire and pulled off a win.
Today has not had a very good start. I got up and ran (which was pretty good). I was missing 13 students from rehearsal today for various reasons. The one that frustrates me the most is the DC testing that was happening. Passes were sent down 10 min in to my rehearsal and I lost several of my first chair players. I understand the need to occasionally pull kids from class, but a little warning would have helped a lot. I could have planned accordingly for a productive rehearsal. Instead, I feel like I wasted the time of the 35 people that were in class today. This happened the day before Pre UIL contest.

Grrrrr
I am really mad at the Tourriffic lady. She was mean. I almost yelled at her in hopes that she would poop her pants.

Post Spring Break
I am pleased with how the band is playing after almost 10 days off. It is nice to actually get to work on music.
